Wellbeing
At Oakhill Drive, we believe wellbeing and positive relationships are key to education. We use a whole-school approach to Positive Education, teaching these principles to students, staff, parents, and the community. Our vision is to help students become creative, connected, and collaborative lifelong learners who grow into healthy, global citizens.
Positive Education at Oakhill is an ongoing part of school life, not just a program. It focuses on building skills like strong relationships, resilience, mindfulness, and healthy living. These skills help students learn better and prepare them for life.
Students experience Positive Education through subjects like PDHPE, other classes, and playground activities. We also promote kindness and empathy through “The Golden Rule”: treat others as you want to be treated. This approach supports students to thrive both in and beyond school.
How we support student wellbeing
Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.
We do this through:
- teachers who help students feel welcome and included
- wellbeing is taught explicitly in every classroom eg character strengths, optimistic thinking, gratitude, mindfulness and solution focused approaches
- access to school counsellors, school psychologists and specialist staff
- help for students who are new or changing year levels
- clear expectations for behaviour and respectful relationships
- staff who get to know each child and work closely with families
- developing health care plans for students
- open communication about wellbeing and support.
